May 4 2024 – Queer & Allies Club Goes to the Theater!

"On Saturday May 4, 2024 Highline College Queer and Allies Club went to see Seattle Rep's Fat Ham at the Bagley Wright Theater, in downtown Seattle. Fam Ham is a contemporary adaptation of Hamlet, by William Shakespeare, with the main protagonist identifying as a queer Black man. After the show, members of Queer and Allies Club got to participate in a meet and great with Fam Ham actor Aishé Keita. The students asked thoughtful, interesting questions and shared their appreciations. Some words the club members chose to describe the theatrical experience include daring, confident, professional, good story, creative, beautiful design, resonant, engaging, soft, and comforting. " - Queer and Allies Club

March 22 – 24, 2024 – Pacific Rim Collegiate Cyber Defense Competition

"A few weeks ago, on March 22nd – 24th, 2024, members from the Highline College Cybersecurity club and Women in Cybersecurity (WiCyS) Student Chapter travelled to Olympia, WA to compete in the regional portion of the National Collegiate Cyber Defense Competition, know as the Pacific Rim Collegiate Cyber Defense Competition. The Collegiate Cyber Defense Competition is what is known as a Blue Team Competition, designed to give a real-world type of experience. Each team is given the task of maintaining and defending the corporate network of an imaginary company created for the competition against professional hackers, while also providing IT support to the company’s employees. While we had some very stiff competition, we are proud to say that this year the Highline College team placed 4th out of the 11 teams from colleges and universities from all over Washington, Oregon, and Idaho State. Overall, this was a great experience for the team. We got to practice our skills, as well as network and build relationships with other teams. We cannot wait for our next opportunity to compete. If anyone is interested in joining or learning more about the Highline College Cybersecurity Club and Women in Cybersecurity (WiCyS) Student chapter please feel free to reach out to the clubs President Jenn Meadus (jennifermeadus@students.highline.edu). The clubs are open to all students interested in Cybersecurity, no matter your knowledge level!" -Cybersecurity Club

Wednesday February 28, 2024 – Arts & Design Club Host Art Contest

"Despite this being the first time we, the Art and Design Club, hosted an art contest here at Highline, the turnout was rather good. We had stations that featured a different medium of art (whether it be clay, paints, or markers) and had attendees choose which medium they would like their art piece to be. When everyone was finished with their art piece, we held a vote and attendees selected their favorite art piece from each medium, and the one with the most votes won prizes. There were 2 prizes total: a fine liner set, a coloring book, and a watercolor set. The aim of this event was to provide a low stakes fun competition to students who might want to unwind after their classes. We had achieved that, and for our first major event of the year I would say that it was very successful." -Arts & Design Club

February 21 – 23, 2024 – Respiratory Therapy Club Hosts Kettering Seminar

"The RT (Respiratory Therapy) Club was able to support our seniors in the Respiratory Care Program at Highline in attending a Kettering Seminar on Campus. Once graduated, students must become licensed to begin practicing as a Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) by taking board exams. These are quite challenging, so it is important for our students to get as much test prep as possible! The Kettering Seminar provided them with some excellent testing strategies and review materials to be successful with their board exams. Thanks clubs, for supporting Highline Respiratory Care Seniors!" - Respiratory Therapy Club

January 31, 2024 – Women in Cybersecurity Highline College Chapter Host Seminar and Lock Picking Workshop

"On Wednesday January 31, Women in Cybersecurity Highline College Chapter hosted a seminar and lock picking workshop from 11:00am-3:30pm in Mt. Constance/Olympus, in Building 8, Highline College. Special guest, Matt Burrough, gave valuable insight into the field of red teaming and penetration testing, followed by a great demonstration on lockpicking by him and his colleague Peter South from Seattle Locksport. Shout out to Basma Basem and the WiCyS Western Washington affiliate for helping make this event possible." -Women in Cybersecurity, Highline Chapter
