The Global Student Ambassadors (GSA) is a group of students who plan activities throughout the year to connect the global community on campus. These amazing students are dedicated to making your time at Highline fun and interesting. If you have any questions, comments, or suggestions, stop by CLS and meet them in person. They’re here for you.

If you are interested in working with us to plan a cultural event/program or have any questions about an upcoming event please contact GSA at gsa@highline.edu.

Past Events

Grinning Ghouls Gathering

This year’s Halloween event had students, staff, and faculty come and take part in the Global Student Ambassador and International Student Program’s event, Grinning Ghouls Gathering. It was a time for international students to learn about Halloween and take part in some traditions while also learning about its history with their domestic counterparts.

We enjoyed pumpkin carving, mask decorating, plenty of games, and finally the grand costume contest. Prizes were donated by local partners such as Tacoma Comedy Club, Jerry’s Rock and Gem, and Dick’s Drive-in.

Henna Around the World

Henna Around the World was an event where students were able to learn about the ancient history of Henna, what it is made from, and its modern uses. Did you know some people use it in their beards?

After learning about Henna, students were able to get Henna from professional artists or use stencils to participate in this ancient tradition as well.

Day of Gratitude

Day of Gratitude brought together the Highline Community to give an alternative approach to the traditional Thanksgiving. We thought about the history of Thanksgiving and broke down how the distortion of history has impacted our international community. We then learned of traditional First Peoples harvest festivals in the fall, ate lunch, and shared what we were grateful for.

Where Do You Call Home?

Thunderbirds come from all over the world! In 2020-2021 and 2021-2022, students responded with where is home for them, and their responses are on the map below.
