Training
Core Services is a comprehensive student leadership opportunity through the Center for Leadership and Service that provides students with a valuable experience in molding and shaping themselves and others as student leaders. Students develop many leadership skills, including communication, time management, decision-making, social justice awareness, inclusive team building, conflict resolution and goal setting.
To help Core Services members gain the knowledge and skills necessary to be successful servant leaders and increase the effectiveness of our programs, we offer an extensive training program throughout the year. All members are required to participate in the following professional development training activities during the academic year:
Fall Training
Early August – late September
Fall training consists of workshops preparing you for the work you will do during the year. In addition, students spend time doing advance planning for the year’s events and activities. Students are expected to work up to 15 hours a week, Monday-Friday, during training.
Summer Leadership Conference
During our first week of training, the Core Team will participate in a state-wide conference, along with student leaders from other Washington state community colleges.
Winter Leadership Retreat
The Winter Leadership Retreat is an opportunity to reflect on the successes and failures of the fall quarter and to make plans for the remainder of the year. Student government officers, club leaders, and other student leaders will also join us.
